Aromatics and a mixture of Nitric and Sulphuric Acids go into a main nitrator where it is mixed immediately. This causes a strong exothermic reaction.
The next step is the 1st re-nitration in a loop reactor (80 - 95% of reaction finished at this point). Then the 2nd re-nitration step takes place and the product than goes to an agitated tank. The acid mixture goes to a separator, which separates the product from the rest of the acids. A second separator separates the pre-nitrated product from the rest of the acids, then the pre-nitrated product goes back to the process (nitration). The organic phase goes to washing vessels which are installed like cascades to use the static pressure. The internals are separated in two areas, the mixing room and the calm down area outside. The first vessel is washing with water.
Caustic soda is used for the neutralization of the rest of the acids. Exhaust air is cleaned by an exhaust air injection washer. The wash water contains the rest of the product. This water goes to the sedimentation basins. On the grounds of the basins the product is kept.
