Brief Overview:

700 MTPD NITRIC ACID PLANT

This Nitric Acid plant was designed and built by D. M. Weatherly in 1986 with a name plate capacity of 700 MTPD, 100% base and a product concentration of 60%.

The plant has an Ingersoll compressor, dual cases, low case and high case with an Ingersoll recovery expander turbine.  The compressor is driven by a steam turbine with total condensation.  Total steam turbine power is 5.1 MW.  The waste heat boiler produces 600 psig (40 bars), saturated steam and the steam turbine is using the same steam with relatively the same conditions.

The plant has only one absorption column as per original design to use regular cooling water in the bottom portion of the column and refrigerated water in the top section to have a tail gas NOx content of less than 200 ppm.

There are a large number of spare parts with the plant, including spare rotors for the complete compressor train.
