The chlorine and air mix from the cells passes to the hypochlorite plant at about 150°C and is cooled to about 35°C through the venture system. The gases then pass through the main scrubber and then onto the backing scrubber to be vented to atmosphere. NaOH is pumped through the scrubbers to form sodium hypochlorite. This is recycled from one of the 2 stock tanks until the correct concentration is reached.
There are 2 NaOH pumps (1 in standby) and this pumps the stock tank contents via the plate and frame heat exchangers to the scrubber. The back up scrubber has a similar layout.
There are 4 off GRP bulk storage tanks. One stores NaOH and the other 3 sodium hypochlorite.
