Uses technology based on paraxylene oxidation and etherification steps.

DMT palnt - produced 140,000 metric tons/year of DMT (dimethyl terephthalate), feed stock is parazylene and air (from compressor building).

Parazylene in the liquid phase is oxidized by air in the presence of a cobalt salt catalyst to form an oxidate containing p-toluic acid and monomethyl terephthalate.  Etherification is carried out int he presence of methanol to form DMT.

The DMT plant uses process air from the compressor building 157 and Glycol from the bulk blycol storage in area 137 for processing
