Brief Overview:

(2) 7.5 MW diesel generators with exhaust gas heat recovery, lube oil purification systems, and fuel oil purification systems.  Shut Down in 2006

They each have about 100,000 total operating hours (each) and only 5,000 – 10,000 hours since the last overhaul. This is a high-reliability system with two lines that are completely independent, with common spares.  The units are mechanically sound and were shut down for emission reasons.  Routine maintenance is ongoing as the machines are still on stand-by.

Diesel motors are Pielstick units with 16 cylinders running at 500 rpm using intermediate marine fuel oil.  Twin turbo-compressors with heat recovery system generate five mt/hr of six bar steam on each machine.  Intercoolers for the compressed fuel and gas mixture.

Generators are 7.5 MW Alsthom-Atlantique units running at 500 rpm and generating 6 kV at 50 Hz.  Total potential is 9.375 MVA at 0.80 power factor.  The exciters are also from Alsthom-Atlantique running at 75 Hz.

Lube oil purification system includes two Alfa-Laval type MAPX-207-SGT-24 centrifuges with double filtration with traditional filters and an automatic viscometer.

Fuel oil purification system includes three Alfa-Laval type MAPX-210-TGT-24 centrifuges with traditional filtration.

(2) air compressors for starting the diesel motors.

Documentation includes original manuals, specification sheets, and P&IDs for the lube oil, fuel oil, steam, condensate, compressed air (for starting), and cooling water piping circuits.

Site access by road and rail is excellent.  Close to local harbor with minimal overhead issues.

Some spare parts included.

Process Description:

The drive motors are Pielstick units with 16 cylinders running at 500 rpm.  They have twin BBC turbo-compressors with a heat recovery system generating five mt/hr of six bar steam on each machine.  The turbo-compressors have intercoolers for the compressed combustion air.  These machines are currently running on intermediate marine fuel oil (1.5 S and 3.5 S) but can also run on diesel.  They consume about 1.5 mt per hour of fuel at full load.

Each motor has fully independent auxiliary systems for fuel oil purification, lube oil purification, compressed air (for starting), cooling water, and exhaust gas heat recovery boiler.  The two independent systems share critical installed spares such as centrifuges and major circulation pumps.

There are three Alfa-Laval type MAPX-210-TGT-24 centrifuges for the fuel oil purification and two Alfa-Laval type MAPX-207-SGT-24 centrifuges for the lube oil purification.  In addition to the centrifuges, there are traditional cartridge filters on both systems.  The lube oil also has an automatic viscometer for keeping track of the oil viscosity.

The generators are 7.5 MW Alsthom-Atlantique units running at 500 rpm and generating 6 kV at 50 Hz.  Their total potential is 9.375 MVA at a 0.80 power factor.  The exciters are also from Alsthom-Atlantique running at 75 Hz.  The machines were assembled by Sorefame.  There are no gearboxes on these units as the motors are direct coupled to the generators.  Both lines have about 100,000 total operating hours.  One line has only 5,000 hours since its last overhaul in 2000 and the other line has 10,000 hours since its last overhaul in 1998.  The overhauls included the diesel engines as well as the generators.

The boilers can produce 5 mt/hr of 6 bar steam when under full load.  However, they are also designed to run dry in case no steam is needed and the machine must run.  The boiler feed water pumps are included with this system as well as stainless steel demineralized water feed lines.
