The hydrogen is produced by reforming natural gas or LPG and superheated steam in the presence of a nickel catalyst at elevated temperature. More hydrogen is produced in the high temperature shift converter. Gaseous impurities are removed from the hydrogen in fixed bed adsorption vessels, which operate in alternating cycles of “run” and “regeneration”. Waste heat from the reformer furnace flue gas, the reformer process effluent gas and the shift converter effluent gas is used to generate steam for the hydrogen plant. This plant has produced 99.99% purity hydrogen.
