The plant recovers the C02 created in the petro chemical process. The raw gas coming from the petrochemical process is first led through the HG filter, where Hg is removed.
From the HG filter the raw gas is led to the CATOX unit where hydrocarbons is removed by a none flammable catalytic combus tion.
From the CATOX UNIT the gas continues to the water scrubber where S02 and S03 is removed by a soda solution.
From the water scrubber the gas is led to the C02-compressor, where the gas is compressed to the final pressure of about 20 barg in two stages. The oil free compressor is equipped with intercooler, after cooler and dehumidifier with associated liquid separators. Compressor is protected against liquid by an inlet manifold. Pulsation dampers are fitted on intermediate outlet and outlet high pressure.
After leaving the compressor, the gas passes through a dehydra tor where the gas is dried to a dew-point of -60 °C (water content 10 ppm). The dehydrator is made as a double vessel, and a cycle is run in which one vessel is in operation and absorb ing water from the gas, while the other is being regenerated automatically. The regeneration is carried out by heating the absorbing material by means of built-in heating elements. While being heated the moisture is carried out of the filter by dry gas from the condenser.From dehydrator the gas is led through a filter containing activated carbon. Here odour components are removed if any should be left.
The cleaned and dried gas is led to the reboiler in the distil lation column, in which the hot gas causes a part of the surrounding liquid C02 to evaporate. From the reboiler the gas is led to the C02 condenser, in which it is condensed at abt -1s 'c.
The liquefied C02 is led to the reflux tank below the C02- condenser from where it is pumped to the top of distillation column, in which the content of non-condensable (N2, 02 etc.) is reduced to a minimum by means of the re-evaporated gas from the reboiler.
From the bottom of the reboiler the pure liquefied gas is pumped to the storage tank.
The non-condensable gases are blown off from the top of the C02 condensator. A part is used as regeneration gas in the dehydra tor, while the rest is vented to the atmosphere.
The C02-condenser is cooled by a traditional ammonia (NH3) refrigeration plant. The NH3 is evaporated in the C02 condenser Gnd from there the gas is led to a refrigeration compressor, which compresses the gas and circulates it to the water cooled refrigerant plate condenser.
From the refrigerant receiver the liquid NH3 goes through a expansion float valve back to the NH3 evaporator/C02 condenser.
The refrigeration plant is controlled by the pressure in the C02 condenser/storage tank (C02 side). The compressor is started when the pressure rises, and is stopped when the pressure falls below the stop set-point.
