Process Description

Neutralization Process
The design is for neutralization of waste acid spills, drips, washings and clean outs produced during the operation of our modern Nitric Acid/Sulfuric Acid complex. We will make extensive use of existing tanks and pumps. The Complex consists of a Nitric Acid Plant, Nitric/Sulfuric Concentrator Plant and Oleum/Sulfuric Acid Regeneration Plant. The plant concentrates 64% nitric acid from the Nitric Acid Plant to 98% strength at design rate of 500 TPD by extractive distillation using sulfuric acid as the dehydrating agent. Spent sulfuric/nitric mixed acid from the nitrocellulose and nitroglycerin production areas is also de-nitrated to make 98% nitric and 90% sulfuric acids.
